References Situated in Far North Queensland, at approximately 900 metres above sea level, Herberton is one of the highest towns in the Atherton Tablelands. The town was established as part of the tin mining activity on the Herbert River in 1880 and mining continued in the area up until 1978. Herberton has retained a number of heritage buildings from its early tin mining days by relocating them to the historical village to the north of the town.
