Additional Notes The town of Croydon is located 562 kms south-west of Cairns, North Queensland. First settled in the 1880s, the area around Croydon was a large pastoral holding. After gold was discovered in 1885, the population of the town increased to 7000 making Croydon the fourth largest town in Queensland. The Gulflander passenger railway line, completed in 1891, runs from Normanton to Croydon.
